Today, I woke up to meet my 6 week weight goal. Yay! There was this horrible hurdle in front of me which wasn't actually that horrible where all I had to do was maintain my weight goal today because the technical end of competition is tomorrow, March 1. Of course anything that should be that easy becomes increasingly difficult when a small part of you wants to rejoice that you made it to the goal. In part because Dom Bosco was cancelled today but we still had English lunch, and in part because they've changed the signs to where you can read the English of what you're eating, I ate canteen slop today. And it was good! Crazy. They did a survey recently though about people's thoughts on the food and 90% apparently were unhappy with it, so maybe they've added more salt to the dishes or something. I had steamed egg with minced pork, bok choy (white chinese cabbage) with garlic, fish with chilis, and rice. It was a big lunch, but I was ready for it. Of course, remember that fish is almost always served on the bones and with skin here, and you spit everything you don't swallow back out on the table. It's not at all rude--it's the norm. I still feel very conscious doing it though. The people at the orphanage I think are bothered that I don't spit out more stuff...I don't care to watch it, I just don't like doing it.
Wednesday should have been renamed 'mist'day, though I guess it would be easy to confuse with the other days of the week that could have been renamed the same thing. It hasn't 'rained' here, it hasn't sprinkled, it mists. What that means is that there is so much water in the air that you are wet if you walk without and umbrella, but there's not actually a significant downpour. It's difficult to explain, but it makes it extremely cold. I'm constantly ducking as I pass by umbrellas of 5 foot tall people with arms that don't quite lift it over my head...or that are too lazy to do so at least.
My powerpoint that I was teaching my 1st grade class with today corrupted somehow and forutnately I found out an hour before the class. I had enough time to revamp it from memory and actually ended up going slightly over time with material today. They were not in the best listening mood and they've switched my disciplinarian helpers. My newest helper is sweet, but sweet doesn't get far with mischevious little boys. Someone once told me kids' tail bones don't develop that early in life which is why they can't sit still....it might have been made up, but I'll believe it.
The best part of my day was the new yogurt I found last night after Bible Study. It's plain but slightly sweet. :) It's the little things.
Leap your woes away and have a great Leap Day today!
